NEWPORT BEACH – A waterfront home owned by Councilman Ed Selich, who has faced money troubles going back three decades, is in default and might be sold at auction next month, records show.

Selich could not be reached for comment at the Newport Harbor home, and he did not respond by press time to phone messages or an e-mail.

The property, purchased by Selich in 2001, sits on Bayside Drive between Jamboree Road and Pacific Coast Highway. County records show it is in default, and a newspaper legal notice published Thursday says it will be offered at auction on July 1.

The Register two years ago detailed how Selich compiled nearly $2.2 million in liens covering unpaid taxes and homeowners association bills going back to 1981.
